Synopsis:

Everleigh is a college student at Hensley University where a series of brutal attacks have been occurring at a rapid pace.  After being coerced into taking a self-defense class with her roommate, Sam, Ev’s life gets a shocking surprise.  The surprise is smoking hot, martial arts instructor Hunter.  While Everleigh and Hunter get off to a rocky start, they build an extremely deep friendship.  As the attacks become more brutal and frequent, our characters grow closer but also more panicked.  Without spoiling the ending, let’s just say some crap happens everything gets turned upside down.  Don’t worry, there is no cliff hanger and a happily ever after.  It just has to be worked for.  But don’t they all?

Lynne’s Thoughts:

Up until this point, I had not even heard of Genna Rulon, but after seeing this book on a couple of blogs, I decided to check it out.  Honestly, I hated the cover; it almost turned me away (judging book by cover, I am aware, thanks).  The saving grace was the title.  I am a sucker for titles that remind me of songs.  What a pleasant surprise it was!  I adored this book!  Everleigh was the perfect amount of snarky, witty, and sweet to totally win me over.  I understood where she was coming from for the majority of the book, and I wasn’t ever really upset with her choices.  Having been in a similar position, the infamous un-relationship, I totally supported her endeavor for more.  I also don’t blame her for wanting more with Hunter.  Dear Lord, that man.  Swoon factor is extremely high.   He’s sweet, caring, beyond witty, and never lets Everleigh get the last word during verbal sparring matches.  He’s also a martial arts expert and smoking hot.  Oh, and he has a tattoo.  You really can’t beat that.  Ultimately, the story line progressed nicely.  It took me a while to figure out the big “relationship twist,” that always sends our couples into a tailspin before their HEA.  Just a heads up to readers:  the content in this novel regarding the crimes can be pretty graphic and intense.  Just something to keep in mind if you are not comfortable with graphic descriptions.   Overall, I was super pleased with this book and cannot wait to read Sam’s story, which comes out this month!  You can also locate a couple of chapters that Genna has written from Hunter’s POV here.  Because who doesn’t wanna know what that man is thinking?

In addition to books, music is another one of my passions.  So in addition to the links below, I’ve linked a video!  The title of this book is also a title of a song by one of my favorite bands.  It just so happens to be my favorite song for the album.
