Tina’s Thoughts:

This story was a fabulous continuation of the events set up in Genna  Rulon’s book  Only For You. I will admit that I was a bit surprised with Sam’s fate at the end of this first book. I expected something to happen but for some reason I was not prepared for Sam to bear the attack. I was crying and quite literally yelled at my poor housemates who tried to distract me from finishing up the story. When this book begins we find dear Sam in a facility that is helping her cope with the trauma she endured due the serial rapist/murderer. It was heartbreaking to experience her emotions and thoughts yet the connection made me so much more joyful when she began to heal and learn to live and love fully. The theme of hope and redemption that was so powerful. Sam had every right to shut down and live a life of solitude. Yet she refused to be defined by her situation and experiences. It was heartbreaking to watch the betrayal of her parents at a time when she needed them the most. When Griffin showed up, all bets were off.  I mean I wanted her to be with him in the first book instead of Robbie but alas, absence makes the heart grow fonder and Griffin was exactly what she needed to learn to love and feel again. The witty banter and conversations are no less than hilarious. I love Sam’s lack of filter and the fact that she says her exact thoughts, sometimes not even realizing she vocalized them.  When her situations triggered a flashback or crippling fear, she pushed through and learned to overcome her past experiences, never forgetting but rising above and finding strength in herself and those around her. The way Griffin loved her was so deep and without reservations. He was patient and kind, never pushing but never patronizing her. His protection and constant companionship displayed such a level of devotion. Above all I loved that this story looked at the hard issues and did not sugar coat. It was raw and real, with genuine emotion, anger, passion and love. Well done Genna! I cannot wait to read about Meg’s story and see how Huntleigh, Sam and Griffin are doing.

Lynne’s Thoughts:

After falling deeply love with Only For You, I didn’t think it was possible to love this book more.  Boy was I wrong.  Really, this entire book is incredible.  Genna is not playing around!  From the first page to the last, I was captivated by the strength and raw passion in this book.  Sam’s recovery and demons that she faces are portrayed in an extremely real but gentle way.  I genuinely hurt for her and all the things she had to fight to overcome.  In Sam’s story, we learn that after life throws you a curveball, you can’t always go back to how things were.  But there is a deep sense of hope that builds throughout the novel, leaving the reader feeling that perhaps not going back is a good thing.  Because of all of her hardships, Sam was able to grow into a strong woman and find love.  Sam found love, which honestly didn’t even seem real at times.  Griffin was the perfect portrayal of what tender, unconditional love can look like.  Griffin enters into his relationship with Sam with full knowledge of her brokenness and really just doesn’t care.  He is never once afraid of her mess, and because of that I fell in love with him too.  As humans, we all face hardships and are inherently messy, and this book lets us know that it is okay.  It is okay to be messy.  It is okay to feel broken.  The things that we are so afraid of are usually what lead us to the things that make life worth living.  This review is not like most that I write.  There isn’t obvious swooning, and there aren’t snarky comments.  This review is different because when I read it, I felt different.  When I closed Pieces For You, I felt hope.  Hope that when pain comes, something new will be born.  That alone makes this book worth reading.
