Tina’s Thoughts

This series was incredible. I saw someone talking about it while I was on Twitter and decided to try out the first book. As soon as I finished the first book, Sins and Needles, I immediately bought the second and third books as well as the prequel. I read all of them in 2 and a half days, forsaking almost all other responsibility to find out the fate of Ellie Watt. This story was a roller coaster of emotions and conflicting feelings. Ellie was such an intricate and deep character. Nothing with her was ever simple. I feel like I was able to see her logic and understand her problem solving skills despite the fact that I was quite often frustrated with her decisions. I loved how she developed into a strong women who decided that her lot in life was no longer valid. She turned from being the most selfish character to one who would kill or be killed for those she loved, her family. It was such an intense battle of good and evil with a whole lot of situations that left me with that good feeling of “What the flip just happened?!?” I enjoyed that the story had so much going on but never confusing. It allows us to track with what is going in many life and death situations, while also developing characters and relationships in a powerful way.Ellie and Camden’s relationship was so full of distress and passion. Camden and Ellie’s history was full of sadness and their relationship started off crazy but their passion and love grew from the worst of circumstances into something beautiful, albeit tragic and heart wrenching at times. When Javier comes breezing back into her life, all hell breaks loose. It was a fast paced story that never felt too rushed or skimmed over. The flashbacks added so much depth to the stories and relationships without weighing down the overall story line. The series had the right amount of drama and suspense, romance and heart break, action and reaction. This series is an incredible read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Take a look at Karina’s website here.

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she’s preparing for the zombie apocalypse with her fiance and rescue pup.
