Aphrodite, goddess of love and lust, is not impressed. After giving up her penthouse suite in trendy Manhattan to go monster hunting around the world, she finds herself in a sad hotel room in Vancouver with a decidedly distracted Loki. She hadn’t expected this job to be so serious, and her Norse partner isn’t exactly bowing to her whims these days. What was the point in coming with him if they weren’t beneath the sheets all hours of the day? It seems like such a waste of sexual compatibility. Humph.

Meanwhile, Loki, Norse trickster, is equally unimpressed. He hadn’t thought taking a beautiful partner along would make his work so difficult. Her unfocused energy grates on his nerves, and his lust for her is only surpassed by his desire for more godly power. He will complete this job, whether she likes it or not, and he’ll walk away one step closer to regaining his old abilities. Now, if only he can get his partner to focus on the task at hand, not seduction. Ridiculous woman.

Aphrodite and Loki, an unlikely team if there ever was one, find themselves in the City of Vancouver hunting vampires. The job is pretty straightforward: rescue the damsel, kill the monster. Unfortunately, even the easiest of jobs hardly ever go according to plan.

tina's thoughtsI was intrigued when I read the synopsis of this story. I love reading stories about different mythologies and seeing those characters brought into the modern world is something that will always snag my attention. If you haven’t read The Maenad of Manhattan, I would suggest you do that before diving into The Vampire of Vancouver. It explains a lot about how Loki and Aphrodite met, what their lives were like before meeting, and how they decided to team up.  It adds some good back story to who they are and how they live in the modern world.

Loki and Aphrodite don’t seem like a team that should work but they do. First off they are gods in a modern world in which their kind is fading and forgotten. Aphrodite is a strong, sensual woman that was fascinating to read about. I felt like she encompassed so much of the feminine spirit yet she was able to kick a$$ when it was needed. She is strong and confident yet feminine and frilly. One minute she is worrying about her nails, then the next she is using her sexual prowess on Loki, and then she is fighting vampires. I loved seeing her as more than what society has deluded her to be. Loki was fascinating and I loved how he was what you think and what you didn’t. For those who do not know his whole story, you see more of his past grievances and his return to the respectable graces of the Aesir, the Norse gods pantheon. He is trickster yet so much more. He is cunning, handsome, full of life and energy, and above all very focused on what he wants- whether that is Aphrodite or to finish a mission and gather worshipers.

When you put these two together, it works really well. There are two strong deities that are fighting for control and watching them interact is wonderful. Their banter is hilarious and their woes are sad. They both see the world in such different ways that the reader is able to see things in so many different lights. Their connection is on a whole other level and their chemistry is off the charts. They seem to need each other, whether they will openly admit it or not. Their different world views and ideologies keep things lively and interesting. You never really know what is going to happen with them.

The mission Loki and Aphrodite are on is exciting and takes them into the world of vampires. This storyline adds a kick of adrenaline and another beautiful love story to the mix. I loved seeing glimpses into how the vampire world interacted with the deities of old. Questions arise from their adventures that cause you to wonder what is going on behind the scenes. I am excited to see where this mysterious thread of the story leads in the future.

The Vampire of Vancouver shines a different light on what we know from stories of old- bringing knowledge of the old gods into the present and adding the supernatural creatures we are all familiar with. This story is hot, sexy, exciting, funny, and heartfelt. There are so many things to enjoy and experience in this book.

maenad of manhattanThe glory days of Ancient Greece are long gone, and the gods of the Old World are scattered across the globe. As their popularity dwindles, as their worshipers forget, their power fades. Luckily for Aphrodite, she’s a household name. After all, how could anyone ever forget the Greek goddess of Love?

Unfortunately, no one seems to know or care about her divinity. In a world of skeptics and technology-crazed mortals, loneliness and boredom have taken hold. Her life consists of romance advice columns, martini bars, and flings with empty-headed men—until she meets Loki.

She’s intrigued: it’s been decades—centuries even—since she laid eyes on another god, particularly one outside her pantheon. In their short—albeit incredibly sexy—time together, she realizes just how much she needs the companionship of one of her own. Loki, however, seems more interested in catching a murderous maenad than swapping stories about the old days.

Can she convince Loki to stay and make her life a little less lonely, or will he persuade her to join him on his quest for more worshipers? His questionable tactics make her uneasy, but how can she turn down the opportunity to live as she once did: freely, powerfully, and lustfully as Aphrodite of Olympus.
