She can forgive, but can she forget?
Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn’t matter that she’s moved on, that she’s about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can’t hurt her-because he’s in a coma. Except that he’s not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she’s the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

tina thoughts a review for you

Have you ever read a book where you thought you knew what was coming and it was nothing like you anticipated? It takes you in deep and leaves you reeling from the consequences and perceived outcome. Forgetting August does just that. It consumes your mind, making you piece together the story as you go and the ending will surprise you with a twist, leaving you begging for more.

While reading this book I was torn. Everything about what is happening is vague and you piece together the past and present through both Everly and August’s POVs. I thought I wanted the story to go one direction and then I was not so sure anymore. It was emotional and frustrating. As you read this story, you see Everly transform multiple times. You see her living in fear, attempting to free herself from the past. You see her happy and content. You see her moving forward to healing and taking the life she always wanted. When things don’t go as planned, she changes her mind and becomes a different person. That was something that fascinated me in this book. The reader watches Everly change constantly. It is not a wishy washy change but something that requires her whole soul and mind to shift. She evolves throughout the story and then reverts back to who she was. I had so many mixed feelings about where I wanted her to end up and at the end of this book, I am still not sure what I want to happen. There are different options that JL Berg can explore with these characters int he nest book and I am dying to know what is going to happen in the end.

Forgetting August is an emotional story without dragging the tale down with woe. You see so much heartache, loss, anger, hurt, hope, and betrayal. It seems like the story should be overwhelmed with all the passion and choices but instead Berg takes the angst and drama and filters it into a story that is heartfelt and gut-wrenching. There is passion on so many levels from so many different avenues.  I was not expecting some of the plot points shared in this story and it made me a bit nervous but so excited at the same time. There are so many different scenarios and outcomes. I could not help but wonder what the best choice would be. I was so sure at one point but then uncertain at others. There is a constant push and pull that allows the reader to see what they prefer and wonder where the story is headed.

This book reveals the story in so many layers. You jump in at the present day, you see a few flashbacks and walk through their history as these two relive and reconnect. The story is fluid, which allows the reader to understand what has happened and what is happening so well. There are still some gaping holes, ones that eventually become a bit smaller as the story progresses, yet there is a sense of intrigue that lingers. When the story began I had high hopes of what I expected to happen and Berg came in and shook that up. I am torn between two different scenarios, wondering where the story will lead and what will happen. Quite a few shocking twists happen right at the end and it was delicious agony to realize the first book was over and the cliffhanger reigned supreme. I plan to anxiously wait for the next book and wonder where this story is headed. There is a fork in the road for these characters and I am excited to see where their chosen path leads…
