Ex Danish Military Special Forces, built like a legend, and uncompromising in every way—Neil Christensen didn’t walk into my life. The Viking-sized warrior crashed it like a hurricane.

The moment he showed up at my strip club, my life fell to shit. South Florida’s most ruthless motorcycle gang, the cops, the Feds—they all wanted something I didn’t have—something the Viking took from me.

I thought I could run but the motorcycle gang caught me. Now the only thing that stood between me and an unmarked grave was a warrior I didn’t trust.

I wasn’t afraid to die. But I was terrified of weathering the storm. Because when a Viking decides to unleash his fury, no one was going to come out unscathed.

Warning: This book contains offensive language, violence and sexual situations. Mature audiences only. 18+

NEIL is the second, stand alone book in the Uncompromising Series.

tina thoughts a review for you

Neil… where do I even begin. I have emotions. Lots of mixed emotions about this book. Neil has been a constant figure in the background of so many previous stories and the moment I discovered he finally gets the center stage, I was intrigued and ready to learn more about this behemoth of a silent and deadly man. I think we can all agree he is equal parts terrifying and alluring.

Back to the emotions part… I have mixed feelings and there are a lot of them, but I would like to point out that Sybil’s writing made me react. She is true to her characters emotions and personalities in such a way that you have a reaction to who these people are and what they are dealing with gets you on the edge of your seat. Her stories are well written and true to form, something that is unapologetic and perfect for what she is doing. Just because I find Neil to be so annoying and alpha and everything, it works. I very much understood the level of frustration from Ariel. Her emotions are all over the place, interpreting mixed signals and dealing with brutally hard situations, keeping her in limbo, as any sane woman would be. I related to her and found myself wanting to smack the silent giant. Point being, this book evoked a reaction from me. Neil is probably one of the most frustrating book boyfriends I have read in quite some time. He is silent, domineering, controlling, and terrifying. He stays true, even when he falls hard for Ariel. It is intriguing to see this type of alpha character fall hard for a stubborn woman that keeps him guessing. I loved how we see a different side of him, a side that is slightly softened but still a hard a$$ Viking.

I know you should not compare books, but I felt like this one was so much heavier than Talon’s, the first in the series. Talon is a suave man full of humor and wit. Neil is silent, only using words when necessary. The lack of humor made this book a bit heavier than I was anticipating. It is still excellent but it felt like these two were always bouncing from one harsh reality to the next. Without Ariel’s quick tongue and strong love for her son, this book would feel hopeless so often, keeping the reader at a sprint to find the silver lining. But that is the brilliance of Bartel’s writing. She can balance the rough edges with hope, even when it is in the form of a humorous rant of what we all might thinking or a precious  moment between a Viking and small child.

The Uncompromising Series is one that I will be anxiously waiting to read more of. Each military macho man we meet is brimming with a unique personality and I cannot wait to learn more. Another bonus is that these people are all so close that you will see glimpses into the HEAs of those who came before them. I cannot wait!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sybil Bartel grew up in Northern California with her head in a book and her feet in the sand. She dreamt of becoming a painter but the heady scent of libraries with their shelves full of books drew her into the world of storytelling. She loves the New Adult genre, but any story about a love so desperately wrong and impossibly beautiful makes her swoon.

Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…

But Seriously?

Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.

She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
