My mind is reeling from this book. I knew it was going to be a fast-paced story of heart pounding danger and what happens is what I expected but there is SO much more. I will start by saying my review will be vague and full of praise for this story. There are so many incredible things about Away from the Dark that I want to rave about but I cannot. This story twists and turns into the darkness and I refuse to spoil it for anyone. Just know that the details matter and the story is so good.
I love Romig’s writing and approach to the story. She does a glorious job of hooking her readers from the first moment. There are a LOT of things to cover and explore in this book, especially after the earth-shattering ending of Into the Light. The beauty of this romantic suspense is that the reader has an expectation of the ending but not of the in between. I had a way I wanted it all to go and Romig blew that out of the water. Each chapter is in a different POV, giving the story more depth and a greater scope of what is happening in the world created. This book is well developed and believable in such a way that it is slightly terrifying, making you wonder if there is something sinister happening around you.
A web of lies, power, lust, and darkness fuels this book. Romig blends it all together and gives it a tinge of hope and love. The love story between Jacob and Sarah was beautiful and broken on many levels, but it gives the reader something to hold onto till the end. The twists I did not see coming added more horror and shock to what I was reading, adding layers to the deceit. All that to say, everything about this book is perfect. That ending left a few loose ends and I hope that they are explored in future stories. Into the Light and Away from the Dark are some of my absolute favorite reads of 2016. These two books weave a story that is sure to stay with you for weeks and months after the last word is read.

Shrill screams echoed throughout our dimly lit bedroom, accelerating my heartbeat and pulling me from the terrible nightmare. I waited for more, until the realization struck. The screams were my own.
“Jacob?” I called, my voice shaking with dread as I reached for my husband. Instead of reassurance, my fingers met cold empty sheets. He was gone—still away at another campus.
What just happened? Was it a dream?
