There is nothing in life (well almost nothing) that a good Reid/Cosway collaboration can’t fix. This Rugby Series is continuing to be a fantastic series, one with everything romantic comedy readers want and need from books! The Cad and the Co-Ed is the third in the series, featuring Bryan, another team player, and Eilish, Sean Cassidy’s (yes that Sean) cousin. This book might have had some drama but it still felt light and happy to me. That may seem odd since the whole story is based on a one night stand which leads to pregnancy and single parenthood, with substance abuse and hardships abounding. It felt sweet, like two people falling in love for the first time.
Eilish is still somewhat of a shy school girl. She is hesitant about what she expects. Yet her strength is radiant in this story. She is a woman who gave it all up to raise her child and that has been the best thing in her life. She seems to be a walking contradiction but she is a contradiction that works beautifully! She is a great representation of a mom. Eilish might not have it together all the time but her determination and fierce protection of Patrick gives her a relatable quality that I adored.
Bryan is a complicated character. You get a glimpse of who he was before and who he has become. I love a good redemption story and this is his. He hits rock bottom and changes his life. He is dependable, kind, considerate, and practiced. The hesitation between these two is the sweetest build up to something smoldering and lasting. I enjoyed watching them decide what they want and go for it. There is miscommunication and many meddling people that attempt to get in the way but they are determined to find their way path.
This story makes you feel good. Throughout the highs and the lows, you know that Bryan and Eilish are meant to be. They deserve happiness and passion. They have paid for their sins and deserve all the greatness the world has to offer. The Cad and the Cod-Ed hits you in the heart where it counts, creating a book that is sweet, lasting, and a silver lining of what could be. I am excited to see who is next and watch these two, along with Patrick, grow in the background!
