New Release + Review: Notes of the Past (Lightning Strikes #2) by Jodie Larson

Notes of the Past
Lightning Strikes #2
Jodie Larson
Release Date: March 20, 2017

I love women. And it’s easy to see why. Being the lead guitarist for the country’s hottest band, Lightning Strikes, has them practically jumping into my bed and walking out the door just as quick. Which is perfect for me. Emotions complicate things, and I don’t do complicated. Not anymore.

Sure, I was in love once, and it was great. Then it was gone. That’s when I vowed never again. Life is better without empty, broken promises.

After five years of hard work, sacrifices, and determination, everything I’ve ever wanted is in my grasp: a successful career, touring city after city and being accountable to no one.

Then she starts appearing in the crowds. The girl I once loved, and who walked away.

Only, Tatum Mitchell wasn’t just any girl; she was my girl.

Will she be the wedge that drives the last part of my heart away, or will she break down the walls I’ve built? We’re connected through the lyrics of our heart and the notes of our past, but is that enough?

*May be read as a standalone*

Ah. What a second chance story! Notes of the Past is a beautiful story of second chances and the mess it can be. So often we see couples jumping straight in and everything being perfect, but in this story, Larson shows the messy side of a broken heart and chance at reconciliation. Tatum and Myles are electric. There is something between them that cannot be denied. So much passion between two people has the ability to go two ways. We see a bit of both in this book. Myles swings from anger to hurt, while Tatum tries to find her footing between his many mood swings. Everything about these two has potential and I was very curious about where it would lead.

Larson has a talent of writing emotion well. Tatum and Myles both left with broken hearts nine years ago. The pain, anger, bitterness, and hurt lingers. They both feel deeply and react just as deeply. I loved understanding their emotions and reactions while reading their different POVs. It makes for a well rounded story that shares both sides and gives the reader all the facts. These two are meant to be, and despite their time apart, deserve each other. The history we read about these two is heartfelt and endearing. I loved getting to understand how they fell in love and where their life plans were. They were starry eyed young people and reality ripped it away. That second chance was one in a million and I loved that it felt raw and real.

One of my favorite things about this series is the secondary characters. The guys from the band are awesome, adding comedic relief and a swift kick to the rear when it was needed. The camaraderie is awesome and I loved the progression from the first book to the second. These characters grow on you and I loved getting to see Kade and Adrienne are now! Overall, this book is a winner! If you love rockstars, second chances, and emotional love stories, do not miss this one!
