New Release + Review: THE SILENT (Irin Chronicles #5) by Elizabeth Hunter

The Silent
Irin Chronicles #5
Elizabeth Hunter
Publication Date: July 27, 2017

They are called kareshta, the silent ones.

But the silent are waking.

Kyra has lived her life in the shadow of a powerful Grigori brother. She’s ignored her own desires for the good of her family, but an unexpected request from Thailand sends her on a mission that could change her life and alter the fate of free Grigori all over the world. Sons of the Fallen hidden in the mountains of Thailand have adapted an ancient human magic for their own purposes. Will this practice bring peace or lead to even greater danger for the Irin race?

A simple diplomatic mission sends Leo to Bangkok, but he didn’t expect to see a familiar face in surveillance photographs. He’s tried everything to drive Kyra from his mind, since he was convinced the gentle kareshta wanted to hide from the world. How did she turn up halfway across the globe, living with Grigori who may or may not be Irin allies?

Leo has bided his time. He’s given Kyra her space.

But this scribe is ready to hear a kareshta sing.

THE SILENT is a romantic fantasy, and the fifth book in the Irin Chronicles series.

If ever there was a paranormal or supernatural world that I could immerse myself in and experience, the Irin world would be my only pick. Hunter is a brilliant writer, someone who can take something supernatural and blend it smoothly with the world we live in. Her stories take the reader to exciting places around the globe, giving us a glimpse into something new and exciting, all the while taking us on an adventure that keeps you turning the pages as fast as you can.

In this installment of the Irin Chronicles, there is even more of a blurring of the historical boundary lines, one that has so strictly been black and white. I loved that the reader gets to relearn the new reality of the Irin and Grigori worlds right alongside those in the thick of it. New truths are discovered and lines are crossed to protect the innocent and bring balance to chaos. If that wasn’t enough, we finally have the epic love story I had been hoping for, for two very deserving characters. Kyra and Leo have been in the story for a while and watching them grow and fall hard for each other is beautiful. This book is about their love story, but it feels like it encompasses more. Their story blurs the lines drawn by history right in the presence of so many life long enemies. They create an alliance with their love that burns bright, one that leaves your breathless and satisfied in the end.

The love story is perfect. The characters are flawed, yet relatable. The alliances are brilliant, and the world Hunter has created becomes more complex and exciting. Add in a good dose of wanderlust and you have yet another winner to add to the Irin Chronicles. So much has been answered in this story but the endless mysteries still linger. I am hoping for MANY more books in this series and even more glimpses into Leo and Kyra’s happily ever after.
