What is better than a story about a cliche yet brilliant hipster? How about a book with four? The Hipster Chronicles is a quirky collection of tales, ones that make the observer in us smile and cringe, giving us a scale to rate just how hipster we might all be. I loved it! Everything in me wanted to leave my town and fly straight into this hispter nirvana and find my place. This book is broken into four novellas, more or less, each focusing on a different couple. I loved how they were all interconnected and their stories overlapped. Each story is unique to the characters we meet, something that is even more appreciated as you read on. I loved how these stories reflect more of who they are and give the reader a snippet of something more, without being left bereft. You are content with the snapshot (not that I wouldn’t love much more from each couple!) and your birds eye view is just the place to be.
Faith Andrews has another winner. The Hipster Chronicles takes the reader deep into the neighborhood and creates a quick bond between the reader and characters. We cheer them towards new experiences and roll our eyes at all the man buns and flannel that deep down, or not so deep down in my case, we secretly love! This book is fun and a very cheeky representative of a cultural phenomena that we see day in and day out. Whether you are the one looking to break out of your shell, the plaid wearing guitar teacher, the shy eclectic girl, the overpriced coffee barista, the country boy in the big city, or any of the other groups represented in this story, you are sure to find something to relate to and smile about. Don’t miss this one! It is a quick read that starts these witty characters toward their “who knows what but loving right now” ever after!
