Down the hall, I saw Gabriella, dressed in a white sundress with her long, dark hair pulled high into a ponytail.
What the fuck? Tell me she’s not knocking on Tyler’s door.
My stomach coiled into knots and I held my breath as I waited on whoever was behind the door to answer. Please don’t let it be Tyler. Slowly, the door opened just a crack and when I saw who was there I gritted my teeth tight, the pain exploding into my head. It was Tyler, wearing only a white towel around his waist. Blood boiling, I watched as he opened the door and she walked in, kissing him on the cheek as she passed.
Frozen in place, I clenched my hands into tight fists and felt the anger boil through my veins. Before Tyler shut the door, he stopped and slowly directed his attention to me. Immediately, he glanced into his room and then back at me, wide-eyed and shaking his head. “Kacey, no,” he shouted. “It’s not what you think.”
Turning on my heel, I glared at him one more time over my shoulder before taking off down the hall.
“Kacey, stop! Please, beautiful . . .”
I didn’t stop; I kept going. The last thing I wanted was to be made a fool of in front of everyone—possibly people who knew my brother and who could recognize me. Instead, I kept running in hopes of getting as far away as I could, away from Tyler’s voice screaming my name.
Looking back, I didn’t see him behind of me, but when I turned around, I ran right into a set of arms that closed tightly around my waist.
“Kacey, what the hell are you doing here?”
Immediately, I froze and glanced up into the same set of sea green eyes I used to look at almost every day of my life. “Paxton,” I breathed.
Tyler shouted my name and Paxton instinctively held me tighter, protectively. “What’s going on?” he demanded, glaring down at me.
He looked like he was about to leave anyway since he was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans with his bag slung over his shoulder. Quickly, I pushed him toward one of the doors. “I can explain, but first, I need you to get me out of here.”
“Is that Rushing calling after you?”
“Yes, now let’s go!”
Keeping his arm around me, he rushed me toward the door and out into the heat-filled night. What the hell was I going to do now?
Tyler’s Undoing is a contemporary romance story that develops between a UFC Fighter and the one woman who wants nothing to do with the UFC world. This book has a healthy dose of sexiness and lust, coupled with humor and heartfelt moments. Kacey Andrews is a single woman who has moved to take care of her ailing grandmother, since her brother and mother are to self important to do so. She is working hard at night, when a nurse takes over her familial duties, as a barista, saving up money with her best friend, Bree, so that they can one day open a restaurant, which is Kacey’s dream! Bree goes to a gym nearby and invites Kacey to go with her, something that Kacey is hesitant to do. Hearing from her friend, she knows what kind of people work out there, UFC fighters. Kacey is hesitant because she is keeping a secret from those around her, she is related to the most hated and egotistical MMA fighter in the league, Kyle Andrews. As a result, she avoids the fighting world in the off chance that someone may recognize her for who she is and attempt to lump her into her brother’s terrible reputation. But they go to the gym and something quite different happens. Kacey meets the infamous Tyler Rushing, a man on the rise in the fighting world and one of the sworn enemies of her brother. Tyler pursues Kacey relentlessly and eventually she caves, indulging in a connection with Tyler. His player persona is quickly counter balanced with his attention and kindness to her, destroying every pre-conceived notion she has about fighters. He is kind, sweet, sexy and completely in tune with her. As truths come out and people from their past come into the picture, their world and relationship seems to tetter on the edge of exploding into a million pieces, but they hold fast and hold onto what they believe is growing between them.
When reading stories about MMA fighters, the storyline and genre seems to be pretty standard and predictable. However, LP Dover takes what could be a good yet basic story and adds some surprises and plot twists that both connect you to the characters and surprises you. Kacey was a sweet character and it was frustrating watching her deal with her brother’s terrible personality and attempted control over her life. Their sibling relationship was well written, in such a way that you can feel the tension, frustration, and manipulation between the two of them. Tyler was a great alpha male character. He felt different from the other fighting heroes I have read. He is a heart of gold wrapped in a fighter’s body with the protective instincts of a lion. He wants the one thing he cannot seem to have and despite the challenge begins to fall for Kacey. They meet and the connection is obvious, no matter what Kacey does. She attempts to ignore him yet decides that maybe they could be more, giving into his advances. When tragedy strikes, Kacey finds herself comforted and cherished in the arms of Tyler and things begin to escalate quickly. The two of them are the perfect counterpart for each other. Tyler is able to demolish the preconceived notions that Kacey has constructed of what MMA fighters are like. Her life has been full of manipulation and control from her brother and his friends. He is able to change those viewpoints and break down her walls, allowing for a hot and sweet relationship to bloom.
This read was the perfect blending of sexy, sweet, passionate, and high adrenaline. The characters are well developed, leaving an impression of someone that you would like to meet and interact with, or in some cases, nothing to do with. Tyler and his family are great. I loved that this fighter came from a loving home, one in which he was pushed to accomplish his dreams with the help and support of his family. His dad and coach was always pushing him harder to tap into his full fighting potential. The themes of true family, love, lust, fighting, friendship, and the future all intertwine so wonderfully within this story. I enjoyed reading this book and seeing a different glimpse into the MMA fighting world. I am excited to see what more LP Dover has in store for this series and the fighters introduced throughout the storyline.
Not only does she love to write, but she loves to play tennis, go on mountain hikes, white water rafting, and you can’t forget the passion for singing. Her two number one fans expect a concert each and every night before bedtime and those songs usually consist of Christmas carols.
Aside from being a wife and mother, L.P. Dover has written over nine novels including her Forever Fae series, the Second Chances series, and her standalone novel, Love, Lies, and Deception. Her favorite genre to read is romantic suspense and she also loves writing it. However, if she had to choose a setting to live in it would have to be with her faeries in the Land of the Fae.
