“You played me,” he said, but he didn’t sound mad. He sounded impressed.
“It worked,” I said, pride suffusing my tone. “But the scrapes are real.”
“Yeah, I feel terrible. Shall I go hunt down a Band-Aid for you now? Oh wait. You carry them with you. You’re always prepared.”
“You never know when you might have to take a fall to be first,” I said, and rooted around in the front pocket of my backpack for a Band-Aid. I found one, peeled off the wrapping and started to press it onto my palm.
“Let me help,” he said in a soft voice, laying the ends of the Band-Aid onto my skin. He stepped closer, his body now officially in the zone of supreme nearness–the zone that would allow for hands to explore chests, and arms to be wrapped around necks, and lips to lock again. He raised an eyebrow. He held my gaze. I didn’t look away in enough time. My breath caught, and my lips were parted. “Hi,” he whispered in a voice that was getting under my skin.
“Hi,” I said against my better judgment, against my brain.
“Are we still on for the movie tomorrow?”

If you are looking for a sweet and sexy New Adult read, then look no further. STARS IN THEIR EYES is a story of a blooming romance between a sweet wonderful young man and an ambitious young woman. I enjoyed the fresh themes and light hearted story so much! As I read this story, I envisioned a cinematic montage, filled with humor, mystery and romance. This story opens with the Jess, a soon to be medical student and part time paparazzo, trying to make ends meet and find the perfect photo for the tabloids to make that happen. She runs into a sexy and mysterious photographer, William, aka the Hot British Guy, trying her best to ignore his existence. After a few encounters, William and Jess connect. After a spontaneous and incredible kiss, they must decide what to pursue and what to ignore. As the story begins to unfold, we learn there is more to William and his intentions than he is letting on and many things are not what they appear to be.
I enjoyed the carefree nature of this story. Jess and William are such fun characters. It was refreshing to read about a male lead character who was sweet, kind, adorable, and not an alpha male attempting to dominate. He is a hard worker, someone trying to work out a job so that he can stay in the US on a work visa. He is a hot single British guy who wants to have a chance with a beautiful American girl. He pursues her in such a sweet and romantic way! William is a swoon worthy character, intended to make hearts sigh and panties melt! Jess is a determined and focused young woman. She has dealt with heavy personal issues in the past yet her control of life allows her to move forward, avoiding any type of backslide. Her goals are important and the primary focus of her life. She wants to be a doctor and works hard to make that happen. She cannot afford any kind of distraction, even one as wonderful as William. As their work brings them together on different assignments, you learn more about William’s true motives, which adds a new interesting plot line, that coincides with the events happening in Jess’ life. Their chemistry is undeniable, a couple that clicks in every single way. They make a great team, a formidable foe to anyone who would stand in the way of their goals!
This story addresses themes in such a way that it causes you to step back and look at it in a new light. Jess’ struggles are real, never trivialized but also presented in such a way that there is hope for her continued success in healing and life transformation. The thematic element of the paparazzo was a fun twist to the New Adult story. I have never read a story in which someone was a celebrity photographer and I loved the dynamics that it created. It was interesting to take a step back and think about Jess’ job, to see the morals and vulnerability of this profession and the lives of celebrities. It is rare to see the other side portrayed and I appreciated the fresh outlook!
As I read STARS IN THEIR EYES, I felt like I was watching a romantic comedy on the big screen. I appreciated Lauren Blakely’s characters, their witty banter and authentic personalities. It was a sweet quick read and I am excited to see what else she has in store for this series!
