My first thought when I finished this book, and probably throughout most of this story was “Why hasn’t Cora Carmack written a paranormal romance before now?” This book blew me out of the water. It was breath taking and perfection. I have alway been a huge fan of Cora’s writings. She takes incredible characters, giving them depth and personality that will connect you to the story and allow you to feel the emotion and situations she writes. This book was no exception, and it had a little something more.
INSPIRE is a story about a muse named Kalliope, Kalli for short, and her life in the modern world. She is a woman both blessed and cursed with immortality and a mission in life to bring art and beauty to the world around her without inciting chaos, a very fine line that she must flirt with daily. She is bound by her own nature to breathe life and inspiration into different artists that she comes into contact with. She actively seeks them out and connects with their art and life. When she meets Wilder, it is by chance and it seems the fates have come to play with poor Kalli. Their paths continue to cross and their connection cannot be ignored. Wilder pursues her with everything he is and she continues to side step his advances, wanting nothing more than a life with him, but fearful of the consequences to them both. Yet love wins and they attempt to be together but the fates are cruel and it all falls apart, making you wonder if Cora is going to soothe your heart or rip it out.
INSPIRE is an incredible blending of the supernatural with the every day life. Cora is able to seamlessly transition between the mundane everyday human life and the paranormal in such a way that it feels like it could be happening to someone you know. She makes each scenario she writes about as authentic and alive as possible. Kalli is a strong woman. She has been on her own, living a life of isolation for hundreds of years. She is separated from her sisters and the other gods. She lives a life that fulfills her cosmic duty but leaves her sad and lonely. She longs for a true connection, one that will allow her to feel alive and cherished for who she is and not what she can offer. Yet she accepts the life she has, continually pushing her limits and spreading her inspiration to others. She is beautiful, kind, introspective, and carrying so much stress on her shoulders.
Wilder is a breathe of fresh air to Kalli. He is mature, mysterious, and sexy as hell. This is a book boyfriend to rival all others. He is kind, loving, and a family man. He sacrifices anything and everything to provide and care for those that he loves. Watching his interactions with Gwen and his mom will melt your heart. He loves completely, never holding anything back. His maturity and character is so admirable. He might be my most favorite book boyfriend that Cora has ever written (and they are all so fantastic).
While reading this book, you can feel the world that Cora is creating. She takes a place that I personally love, Austin, Texas, and brings it to a whole new light. She blends the ordinary with the extraordinary. It connects the world we live in with the gods of ancient history, something I have always found intriguing. INSPIRE is a great story that sets up this new series beautifully. It allows for the reader to dive into a new world, providing the perfect amount to history, depth, and back story without dragging the story down. Cora is able to give the reader a sufficient amount of detail, without creating a lull in the story. Everything flows perfectly and builds in anticipation for what will happen next.
As I read, I fell deeper in love with Kalli and Wilder’s story. When the end came crashing down, I was not prepared for what would happen. I want to know what happens to these two right now! I want to see where Cora takes them and what fate has in store for them. I will be anxiously waiting for the continuation of their story and this incredible series. I am excited to see what is next for this couple and who they meet along the way. If you are a fan of Cora’s writing, then one click this book now.
