ASA
Marked Men #6
Jay Crownover
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 21, 2015
Jay Crownover’s New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with the much anticipated story of southern charmer and certified criminal Asa Cross.
Starting over in Denver with a whole new circle of friends and family, Asa Cross struggles with being the man he knows everyone wants him to be and the man he knows he really is. A leopard doesn’t it change its spots and Asa has always been a predator. He doesn’t want to hurt those who love and rely on him, especially one luscious arresting cop who suddenly seems to be interested in him for far more than his penchant for breaking the law. But letting go of old habits is hard, and it’s easy to hit bottom when it’s the place you know best.
Royal Hastings is quickly learning what the bottom looks like after a tragic situation at work threatens not only her career but her partner’s life. As a woman who has only ever had a few real friends she’s trying to muddle through her confusion and devastation all alone. Except she can’t stop thinking about the sexy southern bartender she locked up. Crushing on Asa is the last thing she needs but his allure is too strong to resist. His long criminal record can only hurt her already shaky career and chasing after a guy who has no respect for the law or himself can only end in heartbreak.
A longtime criminal and a cop together just seems so wrong . . . but for Asa and Royal, being wrong together is the only right choice to make.

How do you even begin to emotionally process the end of a fantastic series? The Marked Men series by Jay Crownover is a series that will touch your heart, melt your panties, and make you fall in love with the ebb and flow of a world you long to exist in. I would like to start off by saying thank you. Thanks to you Jay, I now have a standard to hold the bad boys to. I understand what true and unconditional love it. I know that there are never truly mistakes that you cannot fix- there are scars to live with but forgiveness and second chances are never ending. I learned that you can never judge a person by what you see and there is always something beautiful to be grasped. Jay, you have given us a series of books that will keep us warm at night and open our minds to the beauty and life around us. So from one of your many fangirls, thank you for using your talents to change the book world! You’re a rockstar!
ASA was a book I was hesitant to read but couldn’t wait to get my hands on. It is the last of the Marked Men series and I did not want it to end. BUT I have been dying to read Asa and Royal’s story so I dove in seconds after a bittersweet moment of silence for the end of a fantastic series.
Asa is the southern charmer that you will never forget. He is sexy, smooth, broken, and the epitome of what every woman longs for. In this book we finally get to dive into who he is and how he thinks, something I have been dying to know ever since he entered the Marked Men world in Jet and Ayden’s story. This is a complicated man. He is constantly living in a fight against who he was- reconciling it with who he is now and needs to be. His past is dangerous and his demons constantly taunt him to come back and play. Asa’s internal battle was written perfectly. There is a constant tension that is both tragic and beautiful.
Royal is legitimately the best partner for Asa. The cop and the criminal should not work, but together they bring balance to the world they live in, allowing for forgiveness for mistakes and support in crisis. Royal is tough but loving and kind. She is always on the outskirts but as with every person in the Marked Men world, she is thrust into the friendship and understanding of a community of great people. She is a woman who fights what she wants. She loves deep and completely, which allows her heart and mind to be open to Asa and all his tricks. Their connection is one that cannot be denied. Their smoldering attraction literally burns the pages as you read. This book has the heat factor that we have come to expect from the series and it felt like it was more! Maybe that was my sentiment talking but I felt like I would catch fire from standing too close to these two lovebirds.
Without giving anything away, there were some plot twists that floored me. I was not prepared for what was coming and that allowed for something that Jay does best- to woo her audience and create such an addicting tension and drama that keeps us coming back for more. The whole gang is there at every turn. This book focuses on the story of Asa and Royal but it brings the series favorites back to the story. It is powerful to see where all the Marked Men are now. Seeing their stories weave in and out reiterates to me the fact this is a community and together they will thrive in life. There are so many highs and lows that they walk through together as friends and family. The fact that the past Marked Men characters are always the secondary characters and their lives weave in and out of every story solidifies this community as authentic and beautiful.
Jay Crownover gives us exactly what we want, what we need, and what we fall in love with never expecting! ASA is the perfect, bittersweet ending to a fantastic series. I am sad that I will never read these books for the first time again but that is overshadowed by the joy of seeing such an incredible group of characters have the perfect HEA ending imaginable! I cannot wait to start from book one and read them all the way through again this summer! Cheers to the best ending possible and a fantastic Marked Men story!
