Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot

Good morning my dear, naive friend,

I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.

Why?

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c’mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He’s the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it’s followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

Regretfully yours,
Lily

The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.

tina thoughts a review for youI don’t think I can ever get enough of RS Grey’s writing. Each book is fun, quirky, lively, and perfect. The Allure of Dean Harper is a fantastic addition to Grey’s resume. This book is a well-balanced combination of humor, romance, and just plain good ole reading. I flew through this story in record time and I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of these characters.  Lily is such a fun and spunky female lead. She is opinionated, smart, clever, and hilarious. This girl knows what she wants and does what she feels is right, something that drives Dean Harper crazy. Dean is serious, dedicated,  and set in his ways. This man knows what he wants and how to get there. He has experience under his belt, making him the authority in his realm. These two have a same love and dream but they mix like oil and water. When Lily wants to go one way, Dean attempts to go the other. Together they could be brilliant but their pesky attraction keeps distracting them from their end goal.

The romance between these two plays out wonderfully. I loved watching them asses each other, learning strengths and weaknesses. The food critic and restaurant business is a cut throat world and staying on top of what is happening is easier said than done. These two thrive on the excitement of their work, sharing a love of food, drink, and ambiance. I loved how they are so similar. Their passion is the same, they love what they do, and they want to see new and exciting things happen. I enjoyed watching how Lily challenges Dean. She gives as much as she takes. Watching her learn the ropes is admirable and she fights for what she wants. Dean has been the face of success in the restaurant world and when Lilly comes in to that world, he is knocked off kilter. He is set in his ways, which all undeniably work, and anything new is not very welcome. Watching these two hash things out and learn to work together is spot on. Their difference in age and experience comes to play but where they may lack in some areas, they make up for in passion for their art form. Their passion is hot and their growing relationship is set up beautifully for the story. They fall in love without realizing what is happening, taking them both to places they did not anticipate. The attraction grows from reluctant admiration in the work place to something far more serious and permanent. The flow of the relationship makes perfect sense, allowing the reader to laugh, shake their head, sigh out loud, and fall in love with their romance.

This book made me want to participate in the process of creating a restaurant from nothing but an idea into something thriving. There are things you know that obviously happen to create a new restaurant, but it is fascinating to watch it unfold. This book is glimpse into what it takes to create something successful, a behind the scenes expose of what works and what doesn’t. The creativity to make something new and exciting was fun to see. I loved watching Lily grasp the amount of work and dedication that is needed. She always had the determination but watching her learn and embrace this new phase of her love for the industry is fun. I loved getting to see glimpses of Julian and Jo in the midst of their happily ever after. Those two are adorable and it was fun to see Jo and Lily, best friends from home, learning to find their flow together in NYC.  Meeting Zoe, the restaurant manager, in this story was great. Her spunk and know it all fairy godmother type personality was awesome. I loved her candor and spit fire attitude. She keeps everyone on their toes and adds some flair to the story. My note of advice for this book is to make sure you have grade A snacks on hand. All the food and drink descriptions and choices made my mouth water. I wish I could find everything they talked about and stuff my face with it all. This book feeds the mind, touches your heart, and makes you want to fill your belly. Ha. The Allure of Dean Harper has inched it’s way to the top of my Grey Favorites list. This is a book you will not want to miss.

ABOUT THE AUTHORI am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things…everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
