Emma Hart is an author that I love to follow on social media and interact with in reader groups but I am ashamed to say I have never read her books. So here I am starting in the middle of a series she has written and I have already purchased the two previous books, complete with audio, and added everything else she has ever written to my TBR list for a future date. Needless to say, I enjoy her humor and writing style and cannot wait to see what the other Burke Brothers have in store for me. Dirty Lies is a story of lies, romance, and connection. The characters have personality for days and sass for miles. This story will make your laugh out loud and smile at the antics they pull as they fall in love without even knowing.
Dirty Lies focuses on Aidan Burke, the drummer for the Dirty B band. He is a bad boy drummer, one who is making a name for himself, both through truth and misdirection. He is a jerk, but not an alpha a-hole in the traditional sense. When I read more about him and his story, he seems to just be clueless and his cluelessness with a strong woman brings out everything annoying about him. He is stubborn and scheming, always looking for an angle and not filtering his words or actions. He is a handful to say the least and it takes a very special woman to snag his total focus. That woman is none other than Jessie Law. This woman is hell in heels. She has a personality and enough sass to fill the Grand Canyon. She is a bigger than life woman all wrapped in a redhead, tatted up package that Aidan cannot ignore. When you put such strong personalities together things can either go really good or really, really bad. Situations swing from one side to another, constantly making you wonder if this tension will be relived in the end.
I loved how Emma take these two and makes it work. There is a strong emotion between them and often times it is loathing. I loved seeing how that transformed into a passion that was equal parts exhilarating and terrifying for them both. What started out as a distraction for the media becomes something they both lie to themselves about. Hatred is tinged with lust and soon transforms into something more that these two do everything in their power to deny. It is hilarious watching them fight their feelings toward one another. Their constant push and pull gives this story an edge that makes it a book you want to read. The passion is hot and all consuming. Their banter literally made me snort out loud. The zingers were hilarious and I could not get enough.
I loved seeing the rest of the characters in the story and series as they filtered in and out of the main storyline. I have been listening to the other books in the series on audio and seeing where they were before and where they are now is so fun. I loved little Mila and how she had all the Dirty B boys at her back and call. I loved the friendships and comradery with all the girls. Dirty Lies fuses the small town world with that of the chaotic world rockstars and fangirls. It sheds light on the ugly truths of crazed fans and shows a side of romance in the spotlight that is not all that pretty. But what happens with the cameras are but away is something sweet and hot, developing into a love story to swoon for.
