Lately I have had a habit of starting in the middle of a series but I find that it is a testament to the authors skills that they can allude to something that has happened before but you never feel like you are confused or missing something. Cherished By You is the fourth in the Love in the City Series and a quick story of friendship and love. It is a sweet tale of two people who have been friends for years and their chance to be something more.
This story was a great blend of friendship and romance. Tessa and Justin have been friends for a while and watching their personalities blend was fun to see. I loved how their friendship naturally progressed into something more. As it is when you live with anyone new, there are awkward moments and moments of stress. There are also moments of fun and hilarity. These two, both seemingly so different in their past experiences and life in general, click well and something begins to burn bright. I loved how Tessa wants Justin but she never degrades herself to get his attention. Her presence and personality in large doses begins to beg him to take another look. When they finally see what is happening between them and get on the same page, their romance grows into something sweet and consuming, giving them forever in the processes.
Tessa was a strong female lead. She is a woman that has been hurt by life and reality. Her past could be something so dramatic and heavy but instead we are eased into her world and hurt in such a way that it is not overwhelming or over dramatized. I enjoyed seeing her live life and embrace the world while still continuing to fight her demons. She had every right to be cowering in a corner but instead she takes charge and lives life to the fullest. Justin is a genius but in relationships, he is very clueless. A typical man who is blind to what is in front of him, and then when he does notice, the normal social cues are missed and feelings are hurt. This man is sweet and kind, strong and caring, qualities Tessa longs for in her life. She needs stability and Justin provides a safe place. I love that he respected the hell out of her. At times he seemed clueless but in reality he refused to take advantage of a situation, like so many men would have before him. Together these two fit. They may be from completely different worlds and backgrounds but they long for love and a future.
The subtlety of the drama in this story was refreshing. Some big things happen and plot twists are accomplished, but you never feel overwhelmed by what progresses. It is like you read this book and roll with the punches of what is happening, expecting drama and romance. Some things you see coming and others surprised me. Overall, the story was sweet and kind with a does of blushing romance, but nothing that would weight down the story unnecessarily. Cherished By You is a story of friendship, love, life and healing. A story that is buoyant and satisfying, one I am happy to have read. Steph Nuss’ writing is well paced and engaging, allowing the reader to fall into a story that passes quickly and beautifully.
The Love in the City series is about a group of friends looking for love in New York City. Each book is about a different couple, so they can be read as standalones. The stories are told from both the female and male point of views, and they all end in happily ever afters, no cliffhangers here! Finally, all the book covers are different colors to represent a certain awareness or cause that is referenced in each book. Grab the first book in the series, Wanted By You, for FREE today!
