Sometimes a girl just needs to read a story about a boy and girl who meet, sparks fly, and lust turns into something more. Faking It is just that. It is a story of instant connection and passion that has the potential to turn a dull life into something exciting. JD Hollyfield infuses her characters with emotion and personality that makes this story fun to read.

This book is about a connection between an artist and his muse, something she becomes in a matter of seconds after their initial encounter, inspiring him to dive back into his art with a passion he had been lacking. Hunter is a man on a mission and his mission is Lexi. While the storyline is a bit predictable (nothing at all wrong with that), it is filled with ups and downs and lots of passion. As with any story about an artist, you know there is going to be a spark filled with creativity and desire. Lexi and Hunter seem like they would be complete opposites but they are connected by something basic: the desire to belong and to be loved.

The writing and voice of the book had a fun and flirty style. JD does a good job of sharing the reactions and thoughts of her two main characters in dual POVs. This allows the reader to understand more of Hunter’s hesitations and quirks, as well as Lexi’s true self. The theme of “fake it till you make it” is one I can understand and appreciate in this story. Both characters are living and learning to go through the motions, until one day they find the person that allows them to enjoy instead of endure. Faking It is a cute story filled with humor, passion, and art. It allows the reader to take a look into the art world from multiple angles and enjoy a love story that goes from attraction to something deeper.
