Hawke
Cold Fury Hockey #5
Sawyer Bennett
Genre: Sports Romance
Publication Date: March 15, 2016
The Carolina Cold Fury hockey team proves that love is a power play. As Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling series continues, the league’s most notorious party animal gets blindsided by the one that got away.
Off the ice, elite defenseman Hawke Therrien enjoys his fair share of booze and good times. And why shouldn’t he? He’s worked his way up from the minor leagues and made himself a star. The only thing Hawke misses from that life is the pierced, tattooed free spirit who broke his heart without so much as an explanation. She’s almost unrecognizable when she walks back into his life seven years later—except for the look in her eyes that feels like a punch to the gut.
Vale Campbell isn’t the same girl she was at twenty. As crazy as she was about Hawke, her reckless behavior and out-of-control drinking were starting to scare her. She had to clean up her act, and that would never happen with Hawke around. Cutting him loose was the hardest thing Vale ever had to do—until now. Because she’s still crazy about Hawke. And if he could ever learn to forgive her, they just might have a future together.
Hockey… Thank you to the book world for introducing me to such a wonderful sport! Hawke is a wonderful addition to the Cold Fury Hockey series from Sawyer Bennett. This book takes two strong characters and brings them together in a great way. Not only is this book set in the world of the Cold Fury Hockey team I have grown to love, it also has one of my favorite themes: a second chance for two people to see if what was lost can be found again. I am a sucker for these stories. While this is not my absolute favorite of the series, I loved it. Hawke and Vale are like a hurricane when they get close to each other. There is so much anger, hurt, and unresolved tension between them that when passion and lust gets added to the mix, it is bound to cause mayhem along the way.
When you read this book, you understand and feel the history between these two. You see a very small glimpse of their past in the beginning of the book, but when you watch them interact in the present, you understand it. When one acts, there is a natural reaction that occurs, no matter how long they have been apart or how hurt they both are. This story is about coming home. Perhaps not in the literal sense, but these characters begin to understand that home is truly where the heart is and where it longs to return to. The angst, passion, and high energy creates something that will not be denied.
Fans of the series are going to love seeing glimpses of the continued HEAs of the previous Cold Fury boys. I loved getting to see those happy stories continue and see how their love story continues. Seeing those snippets keeps the series in full circle, giving the overall series a family feel. I love how the comradery and the friendships are solid between team mates. They are brothers in arms, supporting and caring for one another. It adds something more to love as you read this book! Hawke is a great addition to the series and I am excited to see who is next and hopefully get glimpses into what happens with Hawke and Vale after the end of this book.
