I surf.
I fuck.
I pretend to smile.
Two years ago my life was perfect, until it wasn’t. I scattered my wife’s ashes then walked away from the Marines. I didn’t think I had anything else to lose.
I was wrong.
The blond showed up at my surf shop, beaten and stabbed. I did what I was trained to do—I stitched her up. I didn’t have a clue who she was and I told myself I didn’t care. Until they came looking for her.
I swore I’d take my last breath before I let anyone else hurt her except I didn’t know she was keeping a deadly secret. Now I had two choices, her life or mine.
Marriage and combat taught me the same thing—I was no one’s hero. And I was about to prove it.

TALON IS BACK! This man was one of my favorite secondary characters in Unchecked Series and when I found out he was getting his own book, I could not wait. Talon is such a confusing mess of man. He is a man that masks his decency and honor behind his sugary charm. He flirts his way out of and into any situation. Hut the glimpses you see in the previous series show a broken man with a reckless tendency to do whatever he wants, no matter the consequences. As you read this story, you begin to be able to separate the man from the mask. I enjoyed learning more about his past and what causes his flippancy in life. I loved watching him embrace the chaos around him and find purpose again. This book is the perfect story for him, giving readers a greater understanding of who he is and allowing his story to unfold in an exciting and touching way.
As with the world Sybil created in the Unchecked Series, this series starts off with a bang. Talon’s book is laced with adrenaline, danger, passion, and bad choices. This book overlaps with the end of the Unchecked Series, giving the readers who have read that series a look at the other side of what is happening with Layna and Blaze. I loved getting a bigger picture and seeing the choices he made to protect those he loves. I thought I knew what to expect in this story but the more I read, the more I was surprised and hooked. This book was what I expected, an excellent story of danger and hope, but it gave it all to me in a package I was not expecting. There are some old faces in this book, but the new faces are what gives it something more. Nicole was a layered woman and every time you think you understand her, Sybil peels back another layer. The twists and turns shocked me and sucked me deeper into what was happening.
This book was exactly what I wanted for Talon. I loved seeing him fight for what he wanted and work through his baggage emotionally. It was not always pretty. There is emotion upon emotion in this story. There are grievances that cannot be overlooked and hope that cannot be denied. I am excited to see more from this series and hopefully get glimpses into Talon and Nicole’s ending. At the end of this book I was ready for more of the other guys in the book. I cannot wait for Nick and Andre’s stories! They are bound to be just as action packed and epic.
Sybil now resides in Southern Florida and while she doesn’t get to read as much as she likes, she still buries her toes in the sand. If she isn’t writing or fighting to contain the banana plantation in her backyard, you can find her spending time with her handsomely tattooed husband, her brilliantly practical son and a mischievous miniature boxer…
But Seriously?
Here are ten things you probably really want to know about Sybil.
She grew up a faculty brat. She can swear like a sailor. She loves men in uniform. She hates being told what to do. She can do your taxes (but don’t ask). The Bird Market in Hong Kong freaks her out. Her favorite word is desperate…or dirty, or both—she can’t decide. She has a thing for muscle cars. But never reply on her for driving directions, ever. And she has a new book boyfriend every week—don’t tell her husband.
