I am a sucker for a good love story but not just any love story. I want to epic romance, the one that was a slow burn the characters never saw coming. Friendship on FIRE! Sincerely, Carter is that book. Carter and Arizona are brilliant. These two start as frenemies in elementary school and their relationship grows into something that is both solid and life changing. I loved their connection. It feels real and alive. These two are perfect for one another, both as friends and eventually as lovers.
The presentation of this book is awesome. I loved the song titles and letters. It gives the story a multidimensional feel, allowing the reader to see the depth of everything happening. The flashbacks to the past and the way it builds up the present adds an authenticity to their story. Reading this book feels like talking to an old friend, one who is sharing what is happening in the present and remembering the good times in the past. Carter and Arizona are both great characters in their own right, but what makes them brilliant is the way that they interact and react to one another. One would not be the same without the other. They have lived through so much. They get it right and then make mistakes. They bear their souls and keep secrets. Their friendship is the perfect scenario for something deep and life altering to grow.
Everything about this book was good. The characters, the pace, the friendship, the romance, the passion, and the heartache. It all blends together to create a story that is heartfelt and real. I adore everything about these two and their story! The audiobook version of this book is really well done. The narrators help the story come alive with their reactions and interpretations. I loved how you listen to this book and feel what is happening. I would definitely recommend the audio version to anyone! But above all, I would say read this one in any form or fashion you can: audiobook, eBook, or paperback. It is a story you will not want to miss!
