If ever a book was a guilty pleasure, this one fits the bill. Kissed By Reality is everything I wanted and expected. If you are a fan of reality TV or romance, do not miss this book! Carrie Aarons delivered. This book has it all: romance, angst, passion, lust, and a knife to the gut. It has humor and heartache down to a science. It is everything you expect from the reality TV world and a glimpse into the reality where it thrives.
The reality TV aspect of this story definitely caught my attention, but what sealed the deal for me was that this book is a second chance love story. And even better, Leighton is the one determined to fight for her man. Gah! It is so good. I will admit that sometimes books like these make me roll my eyes, but something about the storyline and how the book is presented hooked me. I devoured this book, the epitome of a guilty pleasure for me, someone who cannot stand these shows in real life. The story unfolds in the present, but the flashbacks into their past, how they fell in love and what went wrong, allows for the story to grow into something more. At first I questioned Leighton’s feelings, but the more you get to know her and understand what happened, the more I cheered her on. Her determination and love are unquestionable. Add into that the drama, both on set and off, you have a story that will leave you hopeful and excited.
Kissed by Reality is told in both Leighton and Finn’s POV. This is key to the story. It allows the reader to understand the desperation and love on Leighton’s side, balanced by the pain, anger, and resentment on Finn’s side. This was the best way to share their story. It allows the reader to grasp the emotional depth and turmoil these two characters feel. The characters, both primary and secondary, are brilliant, adding so much to what is happening. I loved getting to meet the girls on the show. There are so many crazy personalities adding to the drama and hilarity of the story. This book feels like you are watching an episode of a big hit reality dating show and the behind the scenes footage has never been so good and juicy. Add to the drama a healthy dose of unadulterated love on many levels and heartache from different and unexpected venues and you have yourself a winner!
