THIS BOOK. I have mixed feelings. A LOT of mixed feelings. I think it might be an overload from the angst and the cliffhanger in the end. But man… Paper Princess is a book that you read and in the end you are left a jumbled mess of frayed nerves and shocked sentiments, leaving you spinning and wondering what in the world just happened. All that to say… can I have book 2 please?
While some things that happen in this book are somewhat absurd and a bit out there, the book owns what happens. There is no holding back. Even if there are parts that you dread or that rub you the wrong way, this book is committed to what it is and leaves it all out on the floor. The intrigue and deceit is not subtle. The shocking reveals and the burning attraction fuel what you read. Even if I found something to be frustrating and others to be a bit too crazy, this book takes it all in stride and makes the reader understand the reality and knits it all together in a story that is true to itself, one that leaves the reader gasping for breath. While I might roll my eyes at some of the antics, I could not stop reading.
There are so many things in this book that evoke emotion. You will love it or hate it. You will be sucked in or disgusted. This book draws an emotional response out of the reader. It can go either way and you will be dead set on defending that emotion. I think what evokes that response is the complete emotion and good writing of this story. Anytime you blend two authors’ styles together into something new and exciting, you are bound to make waves. The story is intriguing and the modern twist on the Cinderella tale is enough to get people on board.
My head is still reeling and I am hesitant for what happens next. I want to sucker punch quite a few characters and to hug several others. Prepare yourself for a story that is both horrible and brilliant. At least there are only a few more months until book two… Right?!
