This book is a roller coaster of emotion. You feel the hurt and the despair. You hope for some peace and love. A Heart of Time takes something so sad and gut wrenching, sharing the highs and lows of a new forced reality, while also showing the glimmer of hope that can be found in the midst of suffering. Silly me for thinking I could predict what would happen in this book. I have seen this theme in movies and books before and I assumed I knew what would come. Shame on me. I was not prepared for the turns that Shari Ryan took and I am grateful to her for breaking out of the mold and sharing something different in this story.
Every character you meet is somehow intertwined in ways you might not expect. I was surprised when different facts came to light and even shocked at a few revelations. This book takes you through the grief cycle that many loved ones left behind deal with day in and day out. I appreciated that Hunter’s hurt was not belittled. He felt the confusion of grief and hope for something he never thought he would find again. His relationship with Olive is sweet and beautiful. Their comradery is precious and I loved their special interactions.
I don’t want to spoil anything so I will be vague. The relationships are very important in this book. There are healthy ones and negative ones. Watching people grow together and apart solidifies this book as something real and authentic. I loved how Hunter and Olive learned to heal and trust. The romantic attachments throughout the book are not what you expect but everything happens for a reason! This book has such a great flow and a stunning story to fall in love with.
