Some universal truths refuse to be ignored.Peanut butter and jelly are a match made in heaven. Spaghetti and meatballs are best friends forever. And guys like Tyler Knight don’t go for girls like Cam Emerson. She knew from the second she met him that he didn’t belong on her bookshelf, the six-foot-six ex-tight end with a face so all-American, it could have sold apple pie. So she shelved him next to the supermodels and rock stars and took her place on her own shelf — the one with the flannel-clad, pasty-faced comic book nerds. Most of her boyfriends have existed between the pages of books, but rather than worrying over her own lacking love life, she puts all her energy into playing Cupid, using her job at the book bar, Wasted Words, as her stomping ground.

Tyler Knight always looks on the bright side. His career-ending injury turned into a job as a sports agent. A horrible breakup led him to Cam, his quirky, smart roommate who is far more beautiful than she realizes. She’s made it perfectly clear she’s not interested in him — not like that at least — but if she ever changes her mind, he won’t hesitate. Because he doesn’t see the lines she’s drawn between them, as much as she insists that they’re there. Deep down he knows that despite their differences, they’re a match well made.

*A romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma*

It is no secret that anything Staci writes I will read. And Staci Hart has given the world a treasure! Wasted Words is brilliant! Be prepared because this review will most likely be filled with many superfluous adjectives exclaiming my love of this story but there is no hiding how much I adore this story. First off, it is brave of any author to take literary classic and translate it into modern day. The fact that Staci pulls that off beautifully means that everything else is just icing on the cake. Her story draws the reader into a story  filled with love, hope, mistakes, and humor. Emma by Austen always felt like the odd one out from her other heroines, the girl with everything going for her, always getting into trouble, and to see Staci’s interpretation of the character and storyline in modern day New York makes my heart smile.

Let’s just start with the premise. This book takes place in NY centered around the lives of two characters. Cam works in what I would think is the coolest job ever. She manages Wasted Words, the bookstore/bar every book nerd longs to have in real life. She is quirky, feisty, and passionate about what she wants. You cannot help but adore her while also wanting to shake some sense into her from time to time. Tyler is the sweetest and the best! He balances Cam so well and their friendship sets them up for so much more. They are confidants and best friends but when the spark of something more teases their minds, everything explodes into frenzy.

The ups and downs of Cam’s matchmaking adds so much to this story. She is flawed and watching her story unfold is perfect. She is someone that people can relate to. She loves love but when she loses that focus, hurt and frustration start to unfurl. The relationship between Cam and Tyler is like friendship on fire. They are in each other’s lives in every way and watching them learn to adjust to a romantic connection is filled with sweet fumbles and heart breaking revelations. Needless to say, it made me sigh in contentment, roll my eyes in annoyance, and huff in frustration. I was invested in this story. The fact I know what happens based on knowing this book is an adaptation of Emma from Jane Austen did not lessen the connection I had to this book. I was enraptured by the hustle and bustle of New York life coupled with friends, romance, and humor. Wasted Words is a life I would love to live, a story I want to be a part of and experience with the brilliant cast of characters Staci wrote and the love story that makes your toes tingle. If you have read Hart’s books, this one if different but no less fantastic. Her growth and maturity in writing is on full display and this story is bound to attract a multitude of classic literature lovers and contemporary romance readers alike!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.
