Carrie Aarons has given us a contemporary romance that satisfies so many. There is young love, tragedy, stereotypes, murder, mystery, and excitement. On Thin Ice is a story that kept me hooked, wondering who to trust and what would happen in the end. Nathan and Camille are opposites in the eyes of the world. She is an heiress, a princess on the ice. He is a hard working care taker of the family estate. It was so sweet to watch Camille soften in this book. At the beginning she is ice cold, with very good reason, and you learn her different masks. She is smooth and cultured, seemingly unaffected by what had happened. Yet as the stress continues to weigh on her and the reality of her broken world sets in, her facade cracks and reveals a scared and lonely young woman.
These two fit beautifully. Nathan shows her what it means to live in the “real” world, allowing her to heal and find a safe place with him. He is her protector and confidant. When their relationship grows, it is natural and right. They band together in hard times and learn to trust each other. They experience love in the midst of chaos and that love is a balm to the heartache.
The murder mystery in this book is sure to keep you on your toes. There is death, destruction, and threats that leave you nervous and intrigued. The more you learn about Camille’s parent’s murder, the more things get dicey. There are threatening letters and a danger lurking in the darkness. Aarons does a great job of developing the mystery, keeping the danger as an ominous threat throughout the entire book. I loved what this mystery added to the story.
On Thin Ice is a great read, a book that has everything I wanted in it. There was love and second chances; murder and mayhem. The characters we meet are brilliant and well developed, giving this sleepy little town a charm all its own. Don’t miss this one!
Carrie has wanted to be an author since the first time she opened a book. She loves spinning tales that include dapper men, women with attitude, and the occasional hunky athlete.
When she isn’t in what her husband calls a “writing coma”, Carrie is freeing up her jam-packed DVR, starting her latest DIY project, or planning her next travel adventure. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, who is more than happy to watch sports while his wife plots love stories.
