INDECENT PROPOSAL by Molly O’Keefe
September 2014
Boys of Bishop #4

Perfect for readers of Susan Mallery and Rachel Gibson, Molly O’Keefe’s gritty and sensual tale of passion and politics features the brother of the heroine from the author’s beloved novel, Never Been Kissed. He’s a driven man who refuses to be distracted—until he meets a beautiful bartender who just may change his life.

With his chiseled jaw and his thick blond hair, Harrison Montgomery was born to lead. Four generations of Montgomery men have served the state of Georgia and now he’s next in line. Harrison, though, is driven to right wrongs: namely to clean up the political mess left by his father’s greed and corruption. But Harrison must first win his congressional bid, and nothing can get in his way—not even an angel who served him whiskey and gave him a shoulder to lean on and a body to love for a night. Problem is, she’s pregnant. Scandal is brewing and there is only one solution: marriage.

Damage control? Ryan Kaminski can’t believe that a cold, calculating political animal now inhabits the body of the emotionally vulnerable stranger who’d given her the most unforgettable night of her life. Really, she doesn’t want anything from Harrison, except to be left alone to have her baby in peace. But Ryan is broke, jobless, and essentially blackmailed by Harrison’s desperate family to accept this crazy marriage deal. For two years, she will have to act the role of caring, supportive wife. But what is Ryan supposed to do when she realizes that, deep in her heart, she’s falling in love.

Tina's Thoughts... A review for you

Indecent Proposal is a well written emotional story that hooked me from the first chapter. It was a constant story of push and pull, in which our two main characters must learn their self worth and identity outside their normal sphere of life and influence. Ryan and Harrison are two seemingly opposites that meet one night at a swanky bar where Ryan works. Harrison is in a low spot and Ryan wants nothing more than to make him smile. They have a, instant connection that sparks the more they interact and talk throughout the evening. Despite the strict no fraternization rule, Ryan takes a leap and spends a passionate night with Harrison. As they both go their separate ways without any more contact, they both return to their lives as normal and move on. But lo and behold, the reader learns a valuable lesson about safe sex and the fact that condoms can fail. Ha!  Ryan finds out she is pregnant. She is excited to have the baby, having no way or real desire to contact “Harry.” She decides to take the path of single motherhood with open arms! Unfortunately, thanks to a meddling brother who means well, despite his ill advised plan, Ryan and Harrison are reconnected in a plan that will most likely leave one or both parties heartbroken and sad. As they continue through life and the pregnancy, they learn to interact with each other, often finding they had misjudged one another, creating an alternate reality that is confusing. They never know if what they feel, say or hear in this relationship is the truth or the lie.

Indecent Proposal was an extremely well written contemporary romance. You feel so much emotion while reading this story. There are parts I laughed out loud about. At times I wanted to hug Ryan or Harrison. Other times I wanted to smack them upside the head and tell them to look around and get their act together! Their chemistry is undeniable and their verbal sparring is fantastic. They are both very strong characters, but with strong characters, you often see a major place of wounding from their past that effects the way they see the present and their future. This idea is very true and it causes both Ryan and Harrison to see the world through a not so rosy lenses.

Ryan Kaminski was such a fabulous character. She is an independent woman, someone who has lived life and hardship enough to know what she wants and where to find it. It is hard for her to break away from the past. She is outcast from her family and longs for a community, a place where she truly belongs as the woman she is today, not who she was before. In taking this proposal from Harrison she longs to re-establish those familial ties and give her child something she couldn’t before. As the story progresses, she wants to be part of a team, a valued member of what is going on around her. Her heart is sweet yet somewhat broken from her past. Her emotions and stubborn personality read so well off the pages of the book!

Harrison was a well written and complex character. His one goal in life is to change the world, and his path of choice to do this is through politics. I have not read many books in which the hero is a straight laced politician. More often than not, the political figure if corrupt or sketchy. It was nice to see a twist in this role. His intentions were honorable, even if some of his choices were misguided. You fall for him right along with Ryan at the beginning and his transformation into the politician is a bit shocking. His hard outer shell in enabled and it is almost like the reader has to re learn all the things we liked about him initially. Yet he softens into the “Harry” we meet at the beginning, adding more depth and emotion to the mix than we saw before.

This book was an emotional roller coaster and I enjoyed the ride. The broad spectrum of emotion allows for deeper characters and engages the reader in such a way that they cannot look away. You feel the loneliness in Ryan and the frustration of Harrison. The primal longings of wanting to make a difference and wanting to belong are so well displayed in this story! I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. I cannot wait to see what Molly O’Keefe has in store for us next!!
