I have read and enjoyed so many of Stacey Lynn’s stories and this one was intriguing to say the least. A theme of selective amnesia seems to be a theme that is used but never truly portrayed that well. In this case, Remembering US raises the bar as a fantastic portrayal of what this scenario would look like. This book was a realistic and heartfelt approach to a love story in which tragedy has struck and two people must find their way back to one another. Stacey Lynn writes incredible love stories. I have enjoyed her writing style and Remembering US is no exception. This book has a powerful theme of love and how true love will withstand the hardships and never be lost. This story begins with Adam and Amy as they meet with a counselor. Amy has been in a horrific accident and has no memory of the last two years, which consequently encompasses the entire time she has been with Adam. All the memories that she has are ones in which Adam seems to use her and draw out her emotions, egging her along. She is wounded from the ordeal and confused with what is happening. Poor Amy is struggling to understand the person she became within the past two years and what caused her to change so much within that time frame. She is scared of Adam, scared of both the deep emotion she sees in him and the anger that he cannot seem to hide. With continual flashbacks to her life and dreams of the past, she attempts to muddle her way through the memories, deciding what is real and what is warped by her fear and confusion.

One of the aspects that I enjoyed about this story is the realistic theme. If a young woman was to lose her memory, she would be timid around her supposed former lover. She would be terrified of what is happening, always teetering on the edge of emotional episodes. That is exactly how Amy is within the pages of this book. You can feel the emotion she is feeling, a testament to the fabulous writing of the author. You step into her heart and mind, trying to decipher her emotions and confusion, never understanding what is real and what is a misconception. As the reader, you are with her every step of the way, trying to see what is truth and what is a lie. I loved watching her “re-learn” who she had been and what she wanted to do. As she met people and remembered key moments from her past few years, she began to fall in love with Adam all over again, without knowing or understanding the place they had been before. It was sweet, emotional, raw and wonderful.
