Make it Last

Bowler University #3
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Publication: January 6th, 2014 by William Morrow Impulse

After graduating from Bowler University, the last place Cam Ruiz ever expected to find himself is his hometown. A bad job as a bouncer and worry over his mom’s health make living in Paradise anything but. There’s only one thing that can make his return any harder—running into the only girl he’s ever loved.

Tate Ellison made a mistake when she was eighteen, one that cost her the best thing she’s ever had. She’s always hoped the regret of losing Cam would fade over time. Too bad it’s only grown. She took comfort in the fact she’d never have to face him again, so his presence in Paradise throws her for a loop.

The pull between them is instant and when the truth of what happened years ago tumbles out, they share a mind-blowing kiss…which leads to more. But the past has a way of repeating itself. When all the cards are on the table, Cam and Tate must decide what they are willing to do to make it last.

Tina's Thoughts... A review for youIt seems strange to start at the end of a series, but I had heard such great things about the Bowler University Series and couldn’t resist. When the opportunity to read the final stand alone in the series, I jumped at the chance to see what everyone was so excited about. I was not disappointed and Megan Erickson has earned her place on the bookshelf, someone I will definitely be keeping an eye on in the future while I read all the books from her collection to catch up.

Make It Last was a perfectly heartfelt story of second chances, one of my absolute favorite types of romances. When the story begins, we see Cam, a college graduate who has moved home for the summer to help take care of his sick mother. He is returning to the place of so many wonderful moments and the biggest heartbreak he has known. In his home town of Paradise, he left behind the woman he loved, Tate, a woman who betrayed his love and trust, causing him to leave and never look back. When their lives become intertwined again, we see two people who harbor so many deep emotions that need to be shared and felt. When life seems to spin out of control, they must make a decision. Is what they once had gone forever or can it be found and made new?

Ah! I loved this story so much. It was filled with strong emotion, excellent characters, and incredible themes. I read it through in one sitting, drawn to Cam and Tate’s story of life, love, and healing. This series is filled with so many wonderful characters. First we have Cam. His intensity is powerful. His devotion to those he loves is admirable. He is sexy, determined, and strong. Then we meet Tate. She is a woman who seems to have been beaten by life. Her strength is incredible. She is stubborn, fierce, loyal, and hard working. These two have a spark that has the potential to rage into a wildfire, out of control and beautiful in it’s wild state.

The theme of family was central and profound in this book. Cam came back to Paradise to take care of his ailing mother. Tate left her dreams behind to take care of her sick father and parent her little brother, a role she never thought she would have to fill. These two characters  understand the importance of family and will do whatever it takes and sacrifice whatever they must to keep family central in their lives. This theme was incredibly written, filled with emotion and love. It made this book an instant favorite!

Second chance romances are one of my favorites types of stories. I love seeing how things were and the heartbreak that tore something so precious apart. When second chances roll around, they are not taken lightly. Instead they are revered and deeper than the main characters could have every imagined. Cam and Tate were so in love and then everything went wrong with one moment. It was heartbreaking to see them attempt to put it behind and when the truth of all that happened comes out, the hurt, anger, and betrayal is central. These two stubborn people must learn to find healing and hope in the midst of the chaos that they now know. Their initial animosity was awkward and tense, especially when their lingering attraction was so evident. When they reconnected, it was beautiful, a love story of passion, history, and connection. These two were always meant to be together and when they finally found their way home, peace was found in the midst of such chaos.

Make It Last is a flawless story of life, love, and second chances. It will draw you in and set your heart ablaze with the powerful emotions written. The themes are incredible and the writing is even better. Fans of the Bowler University are sure to love this story. If you are a fan of New Adult, then this book needs to be on your TBR list. Don’t miss out on this incredible story of second chances and soul mates!

about the author
Megan Erickson grew up in a family that averages 5’5” on a good day and started writing to create characters who could reach the top kitchen shelf.

She’s got a couple of tattoos, has a thing for gladiators and has been called a crazy cat lady. After working as a journalist for years, she decided she liked creating her own endings better and switched back to fiction.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kids and two cats. And no, she still can’t reach the stupid top shelf.
