tina's thoughtsCity Beautiful is a story that will make you smile and your heart ache in the best way. This book was sweet, fun, and at times, heartbreaking. I enjoyed the themes, characters, and storyline so much! Ivy is a special woman and I loved her personality. From the beginning we learn that she has lost her family and the devastation and heartache has forever changed who she is and what she wants from life. So instead of following the path she thought she would be on forever, she left it all behind to make something new and inspirational. Ivy is strong and beautiful. Her opinions and lifestyle were refreshing. I felt like there were take always from how she lived her life but didn’t feel like the author was preaching at you. It was a subtle hint to examine your life.

When Ivy and Patrick meet it is an instant connection. I appreciate that it is a connection and not insta-love, they openly admit that it is a one night stand and not true love. They are attracted to one another and the life Ivy leads is appealing to Patrick in a way he never expected. I loved watching him transform in this story. Ivy heals from past wounds and present heartache in this book but Patrick has an entire journey of life transformation and self-discovery. More often than not, it is the female lead who has these types of revelation. I loved seeing the male lead experience this life change. These two learn to work together and be together. When life throws them a curve ball, they take steps back to get to know each other. I liked their chemistry and their relationship in all its many forms.

I was reading this story and after the halfway mark everything was going so well (almost too well, if you know what I mean- book lovers will understand) and the love story was developing. It was then that I became nervous for the inevitable plot twist. I was a bit shocked at what happened but it all made sense. It was heart wrenching to watch Ivy deal with everything and for Patrick to try to love her in the process. I loved the beauty that came from the pain and the honest conversations they had about what happened. It was beautiful, tinged with a good dose of sadness.

I will definitely be looking up more books from CM Foss. This story was full of emotion without being overwhelming. It had moments of wit, humor, and was full of life and a new perspective! I truly enjoyed this story and I am excited to see what else Foss has in store.

about the author

CM Foss is a hopeless romantic with a love for the written word. When she was little, her mom would ration her books so she wouldn’t go through them too quickly. It didn’t matter, she would just re-read. She’s always been an avid equestrian, competing in the top levels of Three Day Eventing by age seventeen. CM now resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and kids where they own and operate their own equestrian business, as well as raising grass-fed, sustainable meats. She doesn’t have this thing people call “free time”, but she does spent a weird amount of time writing, reading, playing with her kids, milking goats, and drinking wine, while avoiding bananas at all costs. Other books by CM Foss include Shiver and Swoon.
