An eye for an eye…

My name is Archer Black, and I have a confession.

For as long as I can remember, my life has revolved around getting revenge against Senator Thomas Wharton. It was supposed to be easy. Uncover his secrets. End his political career. Ruin his Presidential campaign. Use his stepdaughter, Langley Mayer, to do it. She’s also my stepsister, but she doesn’t know that. Nobody does.

But nothing is as easy as it seems. When my high-stakes plan for revenge takes a deadly turn, I’m the only person standing between Langley and the people who want her dead. Time is running out, and I need to decide what I need more: love or revenge.

tina's thoughtsI read this book in record time. Sins of my Father is an intriguing story about heartbreaking lies, outright deception, and what people will do to right the wrongs brought against them. We see the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is nothing off limits in this story. People are used for another’s gain. There is death, destruction, and a whole history of pain. But on the other side there is an unlikely love that grows in the midst of everything happening.

Lisa Cardiff takes a story that could be overdone and cliche and makes it something well written and enjoyable. I loved the characters she introduces. We meet such an interesting cast of people in a world of dirty politics. Archer is sexy and mysterious. He has lived through hardship and created something of himself. His motives are warped for revenge but his hard work is honorable. He is smart, conniving, and self assured. When he starts to get to know Langley his determination begins to waver but he plans to see everything through till the end. Langely is a strong woman who has endured a different type of hardship. Living in a home devoid of love and affection. She has learned to stand in the background and live her own life in the shadows. I loved how she learns what she wants and takes a step in the direction of achieving that goal, whatever it may be.

The story written in dual POVs, allows the reader to see each side of the what is happening and understand the details of the plan unfolding. Understanding where Archer comes from and learning his history is invaluable. Langley’s hesitations and emotional processing allows the reader to better understand the coming storm and how she will react when truth comes to light. The twists and turns of the story allow for a few surprises, which is always so much fun to see.

The danger and adrenaline in this story is well written and exciting. The romance is consuming, at times passionate and at other times sweet. The political story is intriguing and deceptive. I am excited to see where she takes this series. I hope there is more Knox, Gunnar, and Winnie, as well as glimpses into what Archer and Langley are up to. Don’t miss this story!
