I started to read Alicia’s work with the Beautiful Series. I then fell in love with the Fate for Love Series. Colton and Paige were my favorites! But, in my opinion, Tattooed Emotions has completely annihilated the standings and this book comes into first place, no questions. Alicia’s writing has evolved and grown so much from what I have read. This book is packed full of everything I have come to expect from Alicia’s’ writing. It is a good story, full of awesome characters and strong lead roles. It is brimming with passion, romance, lust, and drama. The drama is so poignant in this book, hitting you deep in the feelings and leaving you scrambling for more. I would point out that this book is NOT a standalone. There is more coming. I was not expecting a second book and when this one ended, I may have freaked out a bit. That ending nailed me in the heart and I am waiting on pins and needles until the second book, Tattooed Scars, releases in November of 2015.

 What made this book stand out among the many Alicia has written? Well, I am glad you asked. The book starts off with an emotional connection that sets the tone for this story. Raelyn survives odds that were stacked against her from the first diagnosis and she has come out on the other side, a miracle. Seeing what she had become and what she endured from the first paragraph creates an emotional bond with this heroine, one that is not easily swayed. You fight with her. You celebrate with her. And you grieve with her. Her life has irrevocably changed and seeing her pick up the pieces and embrace the gift of life is beautiful. Raelyn is a fighter. When you look at female warriors fighting the unthinkable, I feel like her picture would be there. She survived and learns to embrace life. Granted she is hesitant to embrace every aspect but instead lives in the moment, focused on the tasks at hand. Raelyn lives her life in a world of caution, something that is understandable. As the story progresses, she begins to leave the gray area and embrace every moment. One of those moments is Damien Heathman.

Damien is one of those typical brooding tattooed millionaires. He is a well written character but maybe not anything too special on his own. What makes him special is the connection he has with Raelyn. These two together could take on the world and conquer it. They ignite a fire and passion within each other. Damien is brought to life with Raelyn and vice versa. There are things in his past that are still a mystery (hopefully to be revealed in greater details in book 2) and his brooding comes across as understandable with the tid-bits you collect. When he is with Raelyn he is a fierce protector, someone who desires to love and protect her, a foreign concept to him. Watching Damien transform into a man in love is a well written and exciting story.

As with all of Alicia’s books, the secondary characters are key. The friends that surround these two are almost as important as they are. Their friends add depth to the book and allow for us to see a different side of our main characters. These people expand what we know of Raelyn and Damien, allowing us to see their influences and support system. Each character has a vital purpose, no matter how small, to the story and without them the story would be lacking. I love how Alicia brings them together and fill the story with relationships that are solid and familial.

The drama in this story is no short of brilliant. Raelyn and Damien are knee deep in something they never expected until it is too late. They meet under circumstances that are harsh and disturbing but as they grow and learn about each other they band together. Raelyn’s life seems to spiral out of control in regards to the secret revealed. Damien supports her but separates himself from the situation as far as she is concerned. I don’t want to spoil anything but this main theme was not something I expected but I loved it. It added drama that was relevant and gave our two leads a chance to connect in a way that was natural.

The ending is just WOW! I did not really expect it (I think mainly because I thought it was one book) and it twisted my heart. I have so many questions to be answered and a bit of anxiety thrown into the mix. I am ready to see what happens and to know if Raelyn and Damien will get their happily ever after, or if life rip it away when it is finally within reach. Guess I will have to wait a few months to find out. *sigh* This book is by far the best Alicia has written yet and I am so excited to see where she takes us!
