tina thoughts a review for youWow. I knew nothing about this book when I started and I was hooked from the first page. Leighton Riley takes an intense story of love, passion, and obsession, creating a tale of suspense, intrigue, and danger. Catalyst is the story of a woman who has loved and lost. She starts to open and love again but everything takes a dramatic turn for the crazy. Around every corner there was a new twist in the plot and a building intensity that kept drawing me to what I was reading. I read this book fast, not wanting to stop what I was doing. In the end, it was a rush that I was not expecting but one that I loved so much.

This story is told for the most part through Tinsley’s POV. She is a 29 year old bar owner and we jump straight into her story. When the book begins, there is an emotional story unfolding. Her longtime boyfriend was brutally murdered and the book beings in the aftermath of the tragedy. Tinsley is attempting to find her footing and learn to breathe again after her world was tragically dismembered. Leighton does a great job of communicating her grief and that tragedy is not something she can easily come back from. As time progresses she beings to heal on some level, knowing that the scars will be with her for many years to come. She is surrounded by friends and family who love her. Her relationships are foundational to who she is and what she needs. I loved watching her deal with the hard things and process through her grief. It was harsh and desperate but she learns to pick up the pieces.

When she meets Maguire, a man she vaguely knew in college, she begins to find a second chance at hope and companionship. She feels an attraction with him that cannot be denied and things begin to progress as she finds herself drawn to him in a way she cannot ignore. Their relationship is easy and sweet. They are drawn to one another and his patience with her is admirable. He longs to be with her and is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.

When things seem to be going right, everything turns so wrong. I will not go into detail because the plot twists are fabulous and intriguing in this book and I refuse to spoil it. Things take a turn for the crazy and nothing is as it appears. Tinsley is caught in the middle of something dark and sinister, something you hope she can escape from. Watching the story unfold was fascinating. There are waves of twists that will catch you off guard and shock you. I loved how Leighton gave this story an extra flair by adding something fresh the way she did. I wish there had been a bit more depth in a few of the plot twists but that by no means retracts from what is happening. There is danger, passion, obsession, and heartache. Each twist and turn the story takes will bring the reader closer to the shocking truth and leave you stunned.

The writing in this book was great. The story flows well! It develops a tale that is intriguing and has definitely made me look more into Leighton Riley’s other books. If they are written anything like this story, I am going to need to read those ASAP! Don’t miss Catalyst. It will suck you in from page one and leave you reeling in the end.

excerpt alert Watching movers pack away his things and throw them into the truck is so impersonal. Tossing the boxes into a truck with no thought as to what they are handling. I wish I had the strength to be the one who packed it all away, but I couldn’t. It was hard enough to pack up my things. I moved my stuff out of the home two weeks ago, but the majority of everything in that home was his.
He was my other half. My soul mate. One morning, we were completely in love and talking about starting a family, and then by nightfall, I had found my boyfriend barely alive in the storage room of the bar I owned. I rode with him as he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, praying he would pull through even though the look on the paramedics’ faces told me otherwise. After what seemed like forever in the waiting room, doctors gave me the news he didn’t make it. The police questioned me extensively, and later that night, I came home to his empty house. From that day on, I have been on autopilot.
