I thought I’d left Blackwater, Texas behind for good. I didn’t belong in the small town, but my dad wouldn’t listen. He dragged me back home in his beat-up truck and dropped a bomb along the way: Chase Matthews was moving in with us. He was the golden boy of my high school, my former best friend, and the last person I wanted sleeping across the hall. His presence was too great a reminder of the ghosts I was trying to forget.
I didn’t ask for a hero. I don’t want to be saved.
To me, Lilah Calloway meant late nights sneakin’ out, moonlit hair, and sparklers in July. She was my best friend until the day she left and I’d assumed Blackwater had seen the last of her. Then, like a tempest, she rolled back into town for the final half of senior year. The chopped hair and dark devil-may-care attitude warned most people away, but I knew if I fought hard enough, I could find the lost girl.
I didn’t want to be her hero. Some girls don’t need to be saved.

tina thoughts a review for you

RS Grey’s book have always been books that leave you smiling and satisfied. Her books have a way of blending comedy and romance that gives you a sense of hopeful romance and happily ever afters. Chasing Springs is VERY different. Make sure that you leave all preconceived notions at the door and prepare to be in awe. It is brilliant, just like all the others, but it takes the reader somewhere Grey has never taken them before. First off, this story is a Young Adult book. It is well placed in that genre and allows the reader to focus on an important life change as opposed to just a romance. It is a heartfelt story that focuses on healing and second chances. It has a romantic theme, but above all, it is about hope. That made this book even more stunning. When the author tells you that this book is unlike anything they have ever written, it makes me excited and a tad bit nervous. But there was nothing to worry about here. This book has the writing and story we come to expect from Grey but a new onslaught of emotions and something more a bit more serious. It makes me wonder what else this woman has up her sleeve.

Chasing Spring follows the return home of Lilah, a young woman who has lost her way, dealing with the continuing aftermath of tragedy and heartache. This character does not shy away from the nitty gritty. When we read chapters from her POV, you see the ugly that lives inside, something she longs to keep hidden. She wants to protect what is left of her heart and destroy the world if need be. Her counterpart in this book is Chase. These two were once best friends but life destroyed what they knew. He is the golden boy to her outcast, but Chase longs to find his friend in the ashes of their shared tragedy and bring her back to life. Sometimes these two are like oil and water. Other times they click back into the place they belong. It is a very emotional journey for these two to face the truth of what happened and to expose the secrets and hurt from the past.

Grey does a fantastic job of exploring the hurt and pain all the while bringing healing and hope. This book is so different from what her reader’s expect but that alone makes it so much more raw and impacting. Chasing Spring is a story that allows the heartache and hurt of life to till the soil and bring forth hope, life, and new beginnings. Lilah and Chase do not have an easy journey but what is on the other side is well worth the pain and brokenness. You will laugh, cry, and feel so much when you read this book! It is a story that puts Grey in a new genre on the book map and highlights another part of her writing prowess we never knew existed!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
