Paul James loved Clara Bateman.
Hating her would have been easier.
She was the past, and he was hell-bent on keeping her there.
Or so he thought…

Craigslist Ad: DESPERATELY SEEKING EPIC
You’re my father.
I don’t know much about you. I know your name is Paul James, you’re a thrill seeker, and once upon a time you did stunts and people called you ‘Epic.’
I’ve been told you don’t know about me. That it’s complicated.
But for me it’s simple.
Here’s the thing: I’m twelve years old…and I’m dying.
And as much as this could crush my mother, I have to meet you before I go.
In time, I’m sure she’ll understand. She’s still in love with you.
So, Epic, if you read this, please come back. You don’t have to be my dad. You don’t even have to tell me you love me or you’re sorry. Just come see me.

Patiently waiting, but running out of time,
Neena

The cover caught my eye, along with the title. When I read the blurb, I was immediately intrigued with what I saw. I knew most likely that I would cry, given the subject matter the blurb introduces, but I wanted to see what would happen and where Toler would take me. This story is a fabulous blend of past and present, with hope for a future that could be. It is a tough balance of what could be and what most likely will be. I love how there is a romance but it is so much more. It is a second chance for Paul and Clara but more importantly it is about a little girls dream. Neena… Gosh that girl. I swear just thinking about that brave little girl makes my eyes mist. It is brilliant how a young teenage girl can be such a powerful character and pillar of the story like she is. Her resilience and positivity carries the burdens of the other characters. When everything begins to wear her down and the prognosis takes a nasty turn, you cannot help but hurt deep. I was reading and was utterly engrossed in the story. I knew I was feeling it all and then I realized I had silent tears streaming down my face. This girl makes the book incredible. It is a good story but with Neena, it is a brilliant story of resilience, courage, and heart.

The love story between Paul and Clara is shared all throughout the book. I liked seeing it unfold in the way it was presented. Two people telling their past history while falling in love again in the present. It was sweet and heartfelt. Their connection is something you begin to better understand as the story progresses, adding depth to their reactions. Their relationship evolves from years of hurt, confusion, and longing into something that is solid and life altering.

Prepare your poor heart for what this book brings. There is hope but the authenticity and reality are hard to swallow sometimes. There is beauty and pain so beautifully intertwined.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR
B N Toler lives in Virginia. When she’s not reading and writing, she’s thinking about reading and writing. Before she became a self-proclaimed writer, she worked as a real estate agent and as an orthodontic technician. **She will notice your teeth before your eyes or hair or anything.**
She enjoys shopping (way too much) and is on a first name basis with several employees at the local Target in her town.
She loves music,(bluegrass, country, 80’s, actually she loves most music ~her favorite song is American Pie by Don McLean and she worships anything that is Elvis and Johnny Cash and Eric Church) dancing, (even though she sucks at it)reading, writing, eating (too much) sleeping late, (which she rarely gets to do) and laughing. If you can make her laugh, she will love you forever.
