Any type of modern day retelling of a literary classic is sure to grab my attention! When the retelling features a second chance romance and a sexy British bad boy, well, I am all in. Filthy English was so good! It had everything I wanted, blending with original highlights of Romeo and Juliet into something fun and modern in a new adult setting. Isla Madden-Mills does a great job of blending the original with the new and gives this story something intriguing to hold onto.
Remi and Dax are fantastic. The chemistry is literally hot enough to burn you through the pages of this book. There is a tension that has the power to break and destroy like a violent hurricane. There is an undeniable connection between these two main characters and once the past comes to light, everything falls into place. It is a deliciously angsty story, one that is frustrating and well played out. So many times I wanted to separate these two and give them a stern talking to, setting them straight. Watching the story unfold in dual POVs allows us to glean so much information and understand that these two are broken people who are meant to be.
This is my first book from Isla Madden-Mills and you can bet that I grabbed the first in the series immediately. Her writing is fantastic and her flawed characters are relatable and real. The story flows so well and the plot twist I did not see coming was so perfectly timed. It created something even more dramatic for the story and gave the reader more to invest in as they read. I will definitely be checking out more of Madden-Mills’ writing and waiting to see what is next in the English series!

Without much thought except for comfort, instinctively I pressed myself against him, fitting into his arms as easy as breathing. He leaned against the brick wall of the neighboring building and wrapped me up, sensing my need to be grounded.
I don’t know how long we stood like that—maybe a minute, maybe five—but soon our breaths were in sync; the rise and fall of his chest in perfect accord with mine.
One of his hands traced down my spine and then up. He outlined my shoulder blades with his fingertips. His hands drifted to my hips then caressed back up to my hair, massaging my scalp.
