A Thousand Letters
Staci Hart
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: February 9, 2017

Sometimes your life is split by a single decision.

I’ve spent every day of the last seven years regretting mine: he left, and I didn’t follow. A thousand letters went unanswered, my words like petals in the wind, spinning away into nothing, taking me with them.

But now he’s back.

I barely recognize the man he’s become, but I can still see a glimmer of the boy who asked me to be his forever, the boy I walked away from when I was young and afraid.

Maybe if he’d come home under better circumstances, he could speak to me without anger in his voice. Maybe if I’d said yes all those years ago, he’d look at me without the weight of rejection in his eyes. Maybe if things were different, we would have had a chance.

One regretted decision sent him away. One painful journey bought him back to me. I only wish I could keep him.

*A contemporary romance inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion*

You ever read a book and think “dayummmmm. That was…wow.” And you sit back trying to processes it all, only to come up with so many feelings that you just bask in the glory and sit still. That is this book. A Thousand Letters is an achingly beautiful story, one that tears your soul and mends it in the end. Staci Hart has shown us a new facet to her writing, a side that is full of deep gut wrenching emotion, hard issues, eternal love, and second chances. This book showcases a new Hart, one that is sure to wow so many books lovers.

When I finished this book, I thought to myself “Austen would be proud of this one.” A Thousand Letters is a modern day retelling of Persuasion, one of my all time favorites. So to say I was a bit critical of the story as I read is accurate. Taking something I love so much and translating it into today’s world can go any which way, but the truth is that Hart wins it all. There is so much to unpack in the story. There is anguish, second chances, hurt, anger, death, life, hope, and healing. You swing back and forth. In the end you are so wrung out yet so utterly satisfied.

If you love Staci’s writing, be warned that this is not what you are used to. There is a deeper side to Hart that has been hidden and this book is the first glimpse we get. This haunting tale of lost love and second chances is the best Hart has produced and when things like this happen, you know the floodgates are about to open, and this woman is about to take it all to a new level. I cannot wait to see what is next. Do not miss this book!

img_8015Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.

From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
